The MCA STCW Medical First Aid Aboard Ship course equips crew members with the skills to effectively identify and manage both injuries and medical emergencies confidently while also supporting crews with existing medical conditions.
MCA STCW Medical First Aid Aboard Ship 4 Day Course Includes:
- Scene Management
- Care of the rescued / on board casualty
- Resuscitation including use of defibrillator
- The unconscious casualty
- Shock
- Bleeding and wounds management
- Burns
- Head injuries
- Fractures and dislocation
- Soft tissue injuries
- Spinal injuries
- Poisoning
- Hypo and hyperthermia
- Medical emergencies (heart attack, stroke, asthma, anaphylaxis, diabetes)
- Communications and record keeping
- Medical kit on board
Your Instructor:
Sue Johnson has worked as a full time first aid / medical instructor for over ten years. Prior to this, she held a variety of clinical and community posts within the NHS including health promotion, project management and training delivery at both local and regional levels.
She is a Registered Nurse, Midwife and Health Visitor with post graduate qualifications and experience in accident and emergency nursing, remote emergency first aid and also recognised MCA qualifications in First Aid. She is also an approved MCA instructor.
Sue’s extensive training and experience has encompassed immensely varied student groups and backgrounds including the maritime / super yacht industry, Ministry of Defence, health professionals, multi-national companies. This, combined with her yachting experience, has enabled her to develop high quality, flexible courses that are tailored to the specific needs of a particular group delivered in a practical, relaxed and highly flexible manner.
